Letters to the Editor
This month we decided to print out some of the letters we have received at the Pub over the last few months. Some are political, humorous, short, and there is even a chain email at the bottom that you may have already received recently. We think they're all worth a look... Enjoy

Iraq
I'm getting pretty sick and tired of all the 2nd guessing of our president. Even if we don't find the
WMD's that were thought to be there, Iraq messed around with the wrong guys long enough, and
paid a price that it should have paid years earlier. I am proud to live in a country that says what it
means. I am not proud to live in a country to plays the 2nd guessing game all too often.
The bottom line here is this. All this crap is getting us nowhere. Nothing will change due to it,
except the Democrats (of which I am a registered one) may think they can change the presidential
seat in 04'. Other than that, save your time and money. What's done is done, and I have no problem
in putting my faith completely in the hands of Colin Powell.

We agree, why would he risk his legacy and reputation on something he knew was untrue, and that would be exposed
anyway? Ed
Sammy Sosa
I have bookmarked and followed your baseball page (click here to do the same) for about a year now,
and want to comment on Sammy Sosa. Sosa was one of baseball's most marketable players. He was
fan friendly, hustled out to his position, and could hit the baseball with the best of them. Now we find
out the dark side of Sammy. True, they have only found the broken bat to have been corked. They
confiscated over 70 bats of his, and they were all clean. Reports have also surfaced though, that Sosa
has almost twice that many bats, and that Cubs management took care of the others. My question
is… why Sammy?
I really don't buy Sosa's excuse that he only had one bat, and that it was only for BP. Even it is was
the only bat though, I think he definitely knew which bat it was. I think he's smarter than that. He
had been struggling at the plate after a stint on the DL, and probably thought he could use the extra
pop to get things going. Unfortunealtey for him, his legacy will forever be tarnished. American
baseball fans didn't care much for McGuire's taking legal supplements, and even talked about putting
an asterisk next to his HR accomplishments. That's without even knowing if said pills helped him hit
home runs. We know this (corking) adds distance to batted balls, and we also know we will never see
the great Sammy Sosa in the same light ever again. Much like Martha Stewart, he stood to gain
little and lose everything. I think that is exactly what his (and hers) legacy will be.

North Korea
What the hell does North Korea want? Are they pissed off that since they couldn't get any worldwide
attention, they decided to instigate everyone by threatening nukes? Why do they need us at the
table to negotiate? The way I see it, it's an Asian problem- let them figure it out, and keep us out of
it. Then I hear people saying that their nukes could hit our west coast. I got two words for that.
Patriot Missile.
Go ahead, make my day. Take your best shot. We are just dying to have some shit stain third world
nation take a shot at us. We'd love to be able to actually know who the enemy is. Take your best
shot. Vegas has it at 2-5 that your crap rice patty country won't last two weeks, and that's with all
our good stuff in Iraq. Take your best shot, we could use a little extra leg room on that side of the
planet to call our own.

get noticed.
Picture looks much better
than the real thing. C'mon
now, has anyone sat thru a
whole episode yet?.
Lynn Doyle of CN8 does
bring to mind a Chatty
Cathy doll now that we
think of it.

I think the vast differences in compensation between victims of the September 11 casualty and those who die serving the country in Uniform are profound. No one is really talking about it either, because you just don't criticize anything having to do with September 11.
Well, I just can't let the numbers pass by because it says something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country.
If you lost a family member in the September 11 attack, you're going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million.
If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed In action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable. Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry.
And there's a payment of $211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments come to a screeching halt.
Keep in mind that some of the people who are getting an average of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million are complaining that it's not enough. Their deaths were tragic, but for most, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Soldiers put themselves in harms way FOR ALL OF US, and they and their families know the dangers.
We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization asking for the same deal that the September 11 families are getting. In addition to that, some of the families of those bombed in the embassies are now asking for compensation as well.
You see where this is going, don't you? Folks, this is part and parcel of over 50 years of entitlement politics in this country. It's just really sad.
Every time a pay raise comes up for the military, they usually receive next to nothing of a raise. Now the green machine is in combat in the Middle East while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low-rent housing. Make sense?
However, our own U.S. Congress just voted themselves a raise, and many of you don't know that they only have to be in Congress one time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month, and most are now equal to being millionaires plus. They also do not receive Social Security on retirement because they didn't have to pay into the system. If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7, you may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people who placed you in harm's way receive a pension of $15,000 per month. I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join ranks before they start cutting out benefits and lowering pay for our sons and daughters who are now fighting.
"When do we finally do something about this?" If this doesn't seem fair to you, it is time to forward this to as many people as you can.
If your interested there is more.......................
This must be a campaign issue in 2004. Keep it going. SOCIAL SECURITY: (This is worth the read. It's short and to the point.)
Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years. Our Senators and Congressmen do not pay into Social Security. Many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan. In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. For all practical purposes their plan works like this:
When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die, except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments. For example, former Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000 - that's Seven Million, Eight Hundred Thousand), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives. This is calculated on an average life span for each.
Their cost for this excellent plan is $00.00. These little perks they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Fund--our tax dollars at work! From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into --every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer) --we can expect to get an average $1,000 per month after retirement. Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average! of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one month to equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits!
Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made. And that change would be to jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us and then watch how fast they would fix it.
If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve. WE, each one of us... can make a difference. Recent publication by Rush Limbaugh (not that we endorse his fat ass though)

And finally, this is worth some serious thought.
IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying
about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist
attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by
the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely
settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the
possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is
seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost
entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few
things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born
here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multi cultural
community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national
identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own
language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over
centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women
who have sought freedom.
We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese,
Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our
society, learn the language!
"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right
wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and
women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly
documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our
schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the
world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.
If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you
should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are
happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't
care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and
our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to
express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But
once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our
pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take
advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.
